About the Bank’s Advisory Board

Advisory Board; Is a board that has the authority to redirect, make decisions/opinion in accordance with Islamic Banking Principles related to the products / services developed by our bank, banking transactions and processes realized. Operating under the authority of the General Manager, communication of the Advisory Board with the Bank is provided by the Islamic Banking Application and Development Service that operates under an Executive Vice President. Advisory Board met eight times during the year of 2015 with the participation of all members.

The questions of Bank staff and customers related to Islamic Banking are evaluated primarily by the Islamic Banking Implementation and Development Service. If the question or issue has been discussed previously by the Board and if it is a matter that has been forwarded to the fatwa, it is answered by the Islamic Banking Implementation and Development Service. Otherwise, all matters about Islamic Banking are presented to the Advisory Board’s consideration by Islamic Banking Implementation and Development Service after consultation with the relevant Executive Vice President.

Bank’s Advisory Board Members

Bank’s Advisory Board consists of 5 members. 3 members are entitled to vote. Although the other 2 members do not have the right to vote, they are given informative tasks about financial matters.

Board Members:

Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Karaman (The Chairman of the Board and entitled to vote):

He was born in 1934 in Çorum. He graduated from the Konya İmam Hatip High School in 1959 and from Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute in 1963. In 1965 he started working as an assistant at Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute. Began teaching fiqh after giving his thesis titled “Islamic Law Jurisprudence from the Beginning until the Fourth Century”. In 1980, the school transformed into Faculty of Theology, he was promoted to associate professor, then to full professor. Retired as of the beginning of 2001, Hayrettin Karaman is currently a columnist for the daily Yeni Şafak newspaper. In addition, he does scientific studies. Hayrettin Karaman speaks Arabic, Persian and French; his periodic writings are published in the Journal of Real Life and Education and Science Magazine. Prof. Dr. Hamdi Döndüren (entitled to vote):

He was born in 1943 in Balıkesir. After completion of the Hıfz he graduated from İmam Hatip High School and general high school. He graduated from Istanbul Higher Islamic Institute and the Faculty of Law of Istanbul University. He held the positions of the Preacher of Central Balıkesir and the Mufti of Çanakkale, Bozcaada. On 20.04.1975 he was appointed as Lecturer of Procedure of Islamic Law and Fiqh, at Konya Higher Islamic Institute. He continues the same task at Bursa Higher Islamic Institute and in the Faculty of Theology of Uludağ University since 11/06/1973. He completed his doctoral studies in 1983 which he started in the field of Islamic Law in the Faculty of Theology in Ankara University 1978. He received Associate Professor title in 25/10/1998. In 1986 with the invitation of the Saudi Arabia Imam Muhammad b. Saud al-Islamiyya University, did research at this university. He took the Prof. title and was retired from the Faculty of Theology of Uludağ University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsak Emin Aktepe (the Vice Chairman of the Board and entitled to vote):

He was born in 1975 in Erzincan. He completed first, middle and high school education in Erzincan. In 1992, he started university education at Faculty of Theology at Marmara University and graduated from this school in 1997. Later in 1999 he earned his master’s degree in the Social Sciences Institute of the same university with a thesis entitled “Approach to Some Hadith Issues of Imam Shafii in the Framework the Three of His Works” and in 2005 his doctorate degree with the thesis titled “Sunnet Prior to the Shafi’i and Imam Shafii”. He received Associate Professor title in 2011. After 1997, following the works in foundations and associations as director and educator, started working in Participation Banking sector as of 2004 and Mr. Aktepe became a consultant for Türkiye Finans Katılım Bankası. He was appointed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology at Erzincan University in 2012.
